The Feast of Weeks - (Hebrew: "Shavuot" / Greek: "Pentecost") falls 50 days after Passover.
This has been celebrated by the Jewish people for 1500 years prior to Yeshua's disciples gathering in Acts chapter 2.
It was a time to give thanks to God for His Torah, written on tablets of stone at Mount Sinai and it was at this festival that He poured out His Holy Spirit, writing His law on the hearts of Yeshua's first disciples (Jer 31:32)
Interesting facts:
. Shavuot is one of the three pilgrimage feasts when all the Israelite males were required to go up to Jerusalem to “appear before the Lord” (Deut. 16:16)
. The book of Ruth is often read to celebrate the holiday, as Ruth's coming to Israel took place around the time of Shavuot and her acceptance of the faith of Israel is compared to the acceptance of the Jewish people of God's Torah.
· Special foods for this holiday are dairy foods, such as cheesecake and cheese blintzes, because the Law is compared to milk and honey.
