The Feast of Weeks (Hebrew: "Shavuot") occurs on the 50th day after the offering of the First-Fruits of the barley harvest, which is lifted up during Passover. It will be more familiar to many by the name "Pentecost" from the Greek pentēkostē (“50th”), and marks the Jubilee of Passover.

For the Jewish people, Shavuot commemorates the day that God gave His commandments to Israel at Mount Sinai and entered into covenant with them. On this same day God poured out His Spirit on the Jewish disciples of Yeshua, gathered in Jerusalem (Acts 2). After Passover, having been freed from slavery in Egypt, the Israelites arrived at Mount Sinai & entered into an intimate relationship with God. The Torah written on tablets of stone, is understood like a marriage contract between God and His people. Through His Spirit, God then wrote His Law on the hearts of those who worship Him. This fulfilled many prophecies (Numbers 11, Joel 3, Jeremiah 31, Ezekiel 36). What a beautiful picture of God's redemptive plan - freedom from slavery, the physical giving of the Law & then the spiritual actualisation of writing it on our hearts! We have much to celebrate!
